Every day we stretch ourselves beyond our limit trying to be too many things to too many people, and more often than not, we end up putting ourselves at the bottom of the pile.

Week 6: Hydrate Your Body - The Ultimate Beauty Treatment

I turned 48 this week. FOURTY-EIGHT. (Insert crying-face emoji here.) Birthdays have always been my favorite, but I have to say, there are a lot of things about getting older that are starting to take away some of my birthday enthusiasm! Things like thinning hair, dull splotchy skin, weight gain... I could go on and on. I have a deep respect for women who embrace aging along with all of it's not-so-great side effects, but I'm not ashamed to admit that I am going to fight it as long as I can. I am not above Botox or any other aesthetic cosmetic treatment that can help push pause on the clock. In fact, I have recently started a new series of skin treatments called Laser 360 that I am in LOVE with! Ba-bye sun damage, age spots and fine lines! (I'll be sure to write about my experience with Laser 360 once I've completed the series.) 

Modern aesthetic treatments are a great way to help keep things in check, but the best way to fight aging is to take care of our bodies. Here's a statement I bet you've never heard: "It's easy to lose weight with a few consistent habits, and here they are!" Did you just roll your eyes at me? I thought so. I came across that little jewel on a health and fitness blog I was reading. It made me think. If losing weight is so easy, why don't we all have a body like Heidi Klum? The truth is, losing weight is not easy. It can be frustrating, especially when you are REALLY giving it your all. But sometimes we get so caught up in weight loss and fads that we lose sight of what’s really important – our health!

Stop for a minute and ask yourself these questions: How do you feel? Do you feel energized? Are you happy?  Have you considered that what you might need is a replenishment of important vitamins and minerals that your body is lacking? Sticking to an exercise program isn't easy. Even the best-laid plans often get derailed by life. (Work, family, illnesses, bad hair days.) We can't control everything, but we sometimes make exercise harder than it has to be, putting obstacles in our own paths without even realizing it. We come home after a long day of sitting in a chair to de-stress by sitting in another chair. Sometimes finding the motivation to take a walk or hit the gym can be as much of a challenge as the workout itself!

Sure, everyone says to "make time for what's important to you," but oversimplification doesn't make the struggle any easier.

Week 1: Know Your Body - How to set realistic goals for yourself.

The first step in the journey to your best body is to know your body.

I'm not a tall, "leggy" girl, but I feel quite certain I would be just darling at it! The truth is, even when I take a deep breath, hold it in and stand up really straight, I am just under five feet, four inches tall. So even in my highest heels, I will never be a Cindy Crawford, and I am 100% okay with that. My goal is not to be Cindy Crawford. My goal is to be me, only better.

When setting goals for yourself, it is important to know YOUR body. Ideally, improving your appearance is about letting your true self shine through. It’s not about fitting a standard ideal of what attractiveness is to society in general. As you work on discovering your best body, keep this in mind, this is not about being better than someone else, this is about being your best you.
