How does the Selphyl PRFM Hair Restoration work?

The Selphyl PRFM system is a simple, no downtime series of treatments to help thinning hair using a persons own platelets. It allows for prolonged release of platelet growth factors in the scalp which stimulates stem cells, prolongs dermal papillae cell survival, and increases the development of new blood vessels. These factors combine to prolong the growing phase of hair growth and shorten the resting phase. The result is increased hair thickness and hair follicle survival.

What can you expect during a Selphyl PRFM Hair Restoration Treatment?

• Our first step will be to assess whether you are a candidate for Selphyl. During your consultation, we will advise you not to take Aspirin or Ibuprofen for ten days before your procedure and tell you that you should not drink alcohol for two days prior to the procedure.
• The day of your procedure, we will draw blood from your arm, and then you can sit back and relax while we centrifuge the blood in order to separate the platelet and growth factor-rich plasma from the rest of the blood components.
• We will then clean your scalp in the areas where your hair is thinning with alcohol and use a tiny needle to inject little bits of this activated plasma into the area of your scalp where hair follicles grow.
• After your appointment, we give you specific care instructions for your hair including: (1) do not wash your hair for 24 hours, (2) do not swim for 3 days and (3) do not sit in a sauna, hot tub or Jacuzzi for 3 days following your treatment.
• Although each patient is different based upon their goals and needs, we typically recommend a series of three treatments. These treatments are spaced out by one month intervals. After the third treatment, we wait for 8 weeks to assess whether any additional treatments are needed.
