What is the Best Age to Start Preventative Botox?

Using Botox is one of those things we assume we’ll think about later. After all, Botox is for old people, right?

Not really. In fact, the number of young people using Botox to stop wrinkles before they start is growing.—It's called, Preventative Botox.

I can still remember my mother's words: “Don’t make that face or it’ll get stuck that way!” Turns out, she was right.

We have 43 different muscles in our face. They work to create smiles, frowns, angry glares and that signature "selfie-pucker" we like to use as our profile pic. When the muscles in our face move, our skin creases to accommodate the change, the lines that result are called dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles only appear with facial expressions and usually go away when we rest our face — until one day, they don't. (Uh-oh.)

It happens to us all. Over time these dynamic fine lines start to "stick around" even when our face is in a resting position, and if left untreated, they become permanent wrinkles. Does this mean we should stop smiling, winking and blowing kisses? Should we adopt the "resting bitch face" mentality? —Or is it time to consider Botox?

So what is the best age to start Preventative Botox?

Although Botox is FDA-approved and available for patients 18 and older, most people start getting preventive treatments in their 20s and 30s. It's not about the number of candles on your birthday cake, it's about you and your skin. When you begin to notice or are bothered by frown lines, forehead lines, etc., it’s reasonable to consider starting treatments. The best time to treat wrinkles is before they happen, rather than attempting to fix them after they’ve developed.

Real stories from real patients:

Are Botox injections safe?

Botox injections are the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure worldwide and have a stellar safety record. The crucial part of this cosmetic treatment is to find the right qualified injector to perform it. At Cosmetic Laser Center all injections are performed by Texas licensed nurse injectors with decades of experience and unmatched knowledge of facial anatomy.

Is Botox right for you?

While Botox is the most commonly-known neuromodulator, Xeomin and Dysport are also among the best products for prevention and treatment of dynamic wrinkles, and Cosmetic Laser Center carries all three. During a consultation at CLC, we will review and discuss your areas of concern and create a unique treatment plan that fits your specific aesthetic goals.
