What Is IPL Photofacial?

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) photofacial is a light-based treatment used to improve discoloration caused by sun exposure, aging, and vascular changes in the skin. It is commonly used to treat:

• Age spots
• Brown pigmentation
• Broken capillaries
• Redness and rosacea-related flushing
• Uneven skin tone

IPL can be performed on the face, neck, chest, and other areas affected by sun damage.

How IPL Photofacial Works

IPL delivers controlled pulses of broad-spectrum light to the skin. The light energy is absorbed by excess pigment (melanin) and visible blood vessels.

The targeted pigment breaks down into smaller fragments, which are gradually cleared by the body’s natural processes. Over a series of treatments, this results in a clearer, more even-toned appearance.

IPL treatments are typically performed in a series to achieve optimal improvement in pigmentation and redness.

What to Expect from Your IPL Photofacial Treatment at CLC

Consultation
During your initial visit, our laser professional will determine whether IPL is appropriate for your skin type and concerns. You will receive pre-treatment instructions, including avoiding tanning, waxing, peels, and certain topical products before treatment.

During Treatment
Your skin will be cleansed and a cooling gel applied. Protective eyewear is worn. The IPL device delivers pulses of light across the treatment area. Most patients describe the sensation as a quick snap or warm flick against the skin.

Treatment time varies depending on the size of the area but typically lasts around 45 minutes.

After Treatment
Mild redness and swelling may occur for several hours. Pigmented spots may temporarily darken before gradually fading over several days. Most patients return to normal activities immediately. Sunscreen use is essential following treatment.

When will I see results and how long do they last?
Some patients notice improvement in redness within two weeks of their first session. More significant pigment correction typically requires multiple treatments. Results improve gradually with each session.

Is IPL safe?
IPL is a non-invasive treatment that delivers light energy without damaging the surface of the skin. When performed by an experienced professional, it is considered safe and effective for appropriate candidates.
